  At Chief Plant Hire, we acknowledge the importance of protecting the privacy of the personal information we collect from our customers and prospective customers. We are committed to and bound by the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 Cth. 

This Privacy Policy applies to all personal information collected by Chief Plant Hire Pty Ltd (“Chief Plant Hire”, “we”, “our”, “us”) via the website located at www.chiefplanthire.com.au (“Website”), at our office or otherwise in the course of our dealings with you (“your”) to provide you with products and services. This policy discloses what information we collect and how we use, disclose and store your personal information, as well as how you can contact us and get access to your information. 

 How do we collect your personal information and what information do we collect?

We may collect, process, and store the personal information you provide during your use of the Website or whilst carrying on our business and providing products and services to you.  In addition, we also collect cookies from your computer or mobile device, which enables us to see when you use the Website and to help customise your website experience.  We may also collect personal information during the process of hiring vehicles or during your use of hired vehicles (via vehicle tracking and monitoring systems). We may also collect personal information from other companies you deal with in some cases from third-party service providers.

When you hire any equipment from us, we will request that you provide some or all of the following information:

1. Your name, date of birth, street address, email address, telephone number, your company or business name to identify you and for us to contact you. 
2. Details of your driver’s license, or a photocopy or digital image of it, so that we can confirm your identity, your residence, and (where applicable) your legal right to drive one of our vehicles (for some equipment other than vehicles, we may also require details of relevant licenses or operator competency certificates). 
3. Your credit card details to pay your hires.  

If you apply for a credit account with us, we may ask for the above information, as well as:

1. Your bank account details. 
2. Trade references to allow us to assess your background; and
3. If you are a company, name and address details of all directors of the company. 

We may obtain your Internet Protocol (IP) address, the device used by you to access the Website payment. 

When you visit our website, we may collect the above information about website activities (e.g. date and time of visits, the number of pages you viewed etc. using “cookies”, as commonly used by most other websites. A cookie is a packet of information that allows the hosting computing to identify and interact with you. The cookies do not identify any personal information but may provide statistical information that we can use it analyse our services. If your computer does not allow the placement of cookies, your navigation on our website may be restricted. 

Why do we collect this information?
The purpose for which we collect personal information is to identify you, evaluate your needs, provide you with the best service experience possible,and too carry on our business and provide products and services to you.  The financial information that we collect is used by us to bill you for products and services.  Any financial information that is collected is for transaction approval and billing.  Vehicle monitoring and tracking information are collected for the security of our vehicles, compliance with hire terms, provision of products and services, or billing purposes.

We assume we have your consent to use your personal information for the above purposes to send information to you about products and services unless you advise us not to. If you do not want us to contact you or send you information, please let us know. 

Can I access and correct my personal information?

You are permitted to access and correct the personal information we hold about you in certain circumstances.  If you would like to obtain such access, please contact us using the details set out in this Privacy Policy.  For some detailed requests, we may charge a fee to cover retrieval costs.  There may be some situations where we might not be able to provide some of your personal information.  If that occurs, we will provide you with reasons.

How do we protect your personal information?

We store information in different ways, including hard copies and electronic forms. We take all reasonable care to ensure that personal information about you is protected from loss, misuse or alteration. We also have electronic security systems in place to protect your personal information transmitted through our website. 

We will endeavor to take all reasonable steps to keep any personal information we collect about you secured.  We have processes in place to ensure the security of your personal information, including encryption of all data when it is transferred to our service providers and limitations on access to personal information within our organisation.

As a result, while we strive to protect users' personal information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted to us or from our online products or services, and users do so at their own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we take reasonable steps to ensure its security on our systems.  

However, except to the extent that liability cannot be excluded by statute, we exclude all liability (including negligence) for the consequences of unauthorised access to your personal information. You are responsible for keeping any passwords and/or account information secret but please contact us if you become aware of any security breach.

Disclosure of your information outside of Chief Plant Hire

We may use or disclose personal information for the primary purpose for which it is collected (e.g. the provision of our services, including administration and billing, notification to you about changes to our services, record-keeping following termination of our services to you and technical maintenance).  We may also use and disclose such information for a purpose related to the primary purpose of collection and where you would reasonably expect that we would use the information in such a way.  This may also include the use of your personal information to understand your needs and improve our products and services through research, product development and training.

In addition, we are permitted to use or disclose personal information to our service providers who assist us in operating the Website, who assist us in operating our hire business, or as required or authorized by law, or to prevent or investigate the suspected unlawful activity, or where you have consented to the disclosure.

As an example, we may disclose your personal information to other companies such as IT support service providers; customer or market research organisations; printers, mail service and delivery providers; agents who assist us in the business of hiring vehicles; credit card providers and financial institutions; credit information and debt management agencies such as Dunn & Bradstreet; legal, accounting and other professional advisers; councils, government and other organisations responsible for processing traffic related infringements;  insurers, police, and other persons involved in an accident or claim; driver licensing authorities; and government, regulatory, statutory, or law enforcement agencies.

This personal information is only disclosed to third parties outside our business either in circumstances where you have provided express or implied consent, or in confidence, or otherwise where the use or disclosure is authorised or required under Australian law or a court/tribunal order.

You accept that your use of this website includes your acceptance of this Privacy Policy and the website Terms of Use in force as at the time and subject to change from time to time at our discretion. 

Can I refuse to provide my personal information?

You can refuse to provide us with your personal information if you are making general inquiries about our products and services. However, we may not be able to answer your requests in some cases or conduct business with you if you refuse to disclose the personal information that we require.
